Golden brown – 24-08-20

I wanted to test some new paper I bought at Brugman Art, Voorburg, Netherlands, which is Talens Toned Colour Paper. What motif to use? Right, my regular model that shows great skin hues. Almost like Golden Brown, reminding to The Stranglers' song. I also happen to have Cretacolor pastel stick (gold) that I always wanted to try out but never found use for. I must say that both the gold stick as the paper suited to my needs.

I kept a lot of the paper open so both the negative space (background) and the positive space (model) could communicate. The orange and yellow are saturated whereas the whites, light and dark blues serve as counterbalances to the saturation. There were some great angels she showed and I especially like the way the elbow is stretched, a feature only women can show in that particular fashion.

    Voorlinden - 03-05-20 Sometimes you come across a landscape, in fact an estate in this particular case, you want to know about a lot more. Estate 'Voorlinden' at Wassenaar, Netherlands , just above The Hague, is such a fine example. I drew it back in 2013 where I saw it at a distance and enchanted by this big mansion that looked like as if inspector Morse is just about to solve a murder case in the library. Later I found out that the mansion in fact was modelled after an English country house and that was when I visited it for the first time. It appeared it was opened for public: both the mansion where a lovely restaurant is at, the surrounding area and of course the present Museum Voorlinden , one of my favorite as to contemporary art in the Haaglanden area. If you are in the neighborhood, I strongly advise to visit the estate. I once in a while dwell through the woods at the estate that show a bit of elevation towards the dunes, reminding me to my birthground in Nijmegen...

The Peace Pace at The Hague – 04-02-19

    The Peace Pace at The Hague – 04-02-19 Building In The Hague (Den Haag) The Peace Palace is situated, wherein the The International Court of Justice of the United Nations. The building is impressive and as a lawyer I dwelled there a lot and before that time I visited it as a student a couple of times. I remember a legendary Student Ball in 1993. My girlfriend at that time and I made love in the building itself. Making a Drawing I often pass the Peace Palace by on bike and I also saw it from behind a window at Museum Mesdag. It is one of those drawings that keep on lingering in your mind, until it becomes unbearable. Then it has got to come out. That was on a windy February day and not a good time to outdoor sketching, so I took a photo. My drawing Leidschendam 11-04-19 is rendered in the same style and I am not sure how to call this style. It bears elements of roundism, cubism, impressionism and realism in it. Click here if you want to read further on my website....

  Roundism - 07-08-20 There are so many subjects to draw: dogs, cats, pets in general, still lifes, people, landscapes and. It was bestowed upon me the task to draw nudes. Somebody's got to do it. I don't mind. Since I am a bachelor I have all the time for the ladies and nudes in particular. In this one I concentrated on the slanted position of the legs that were that beautiful, it did not need too much cubist styling from my part. In stead, I added massive blocks of black and white, covering the total tonal bandwith. I kept the left lower corner and the upper right one blank so I created a counterbalance to the position of the legs. If you want to read further you can go to my post on my website here .
