Sans titre - 17-01-15

Today I sold this drawing, part of my Sans Titre series. I  called all movie star portraits as such in order to have people avoid comparing the ressemblance to original photos first, instead of enjoying the cubistic and roundistic features.

This drawing show my love for light ans shadow play, also called clairobscur. In fact it is the main principle I build my art on. The cubist style came later. I found out I had to reject Pablo Picasso's multi-perspectivism which could be a better description for his initial first wave cubism. Cubism only was a name given by an art critic in a newspaper, I thought. Anyway, my sort of cubism is about combining cubistic elements, realism and atmospheric depth. In fact, it is only a kind of cubist styling I am trying to convey. The style later evolved into 'Roundism'.

    Voorlinden - 03-05-20 Sometimes you come across a landscape, in fact an estate in this particular case, you want to know about a lot more. Estate 'Voorlinden' at Wassenaar, Netherlands , just above The Hague, is such a fine example. I drew it back in 2013 where I saw it at a distance and enchanted by this big mansion that looked like as if inspector Morse is just about to solve a murder case in the library. Later I found out that the mansion in fact was modelled after an English country house and that was when I visited it for the first time. It appeared it was opened for public: both the mansion where a lovely restaurant is at, the surrounding area and of course the present Museum Voorlinden , one of my favorite as to contemporary art in the Haaglanden area. If you are in the neighborhood, I strongly advise to visit the estate. I once in a while dwell through the woods at the estate that show a bit of elevation towards the dunes, reminding me to my birthground in Nijmegen.

The Peace Pace at The Hague – 04-02-19

    The Peace Pace at The Hague – 04-02-19 Building In The Hague (Den Haag) The Peace Palace is situated, wherein the The International Court of Justice of the United Nations. The building is impressive and as a lawyer I dwelled there a lot and before that time I visited it as a student a couple of times. I remember a legendary Student Ball in 1993. My girlfriend at that time and I made love in the building itself. Making a Drawing I often pass the Peace Palace by on bike and I also saw it from behind a window at Museum Mesdag. It is one of those drawings that keep on lingering in your mind, until it becomes unbearable. Then it has got to come out. That was on a windy February day and not a good time to outdoor sketching, so I took a photo. My drawing Leidschendam 11-04-19 is rendered in the same style and I am not sure how to call this style. An introduction to my art

My primary blog is on my own website corneakkers.com but by chance came across blogger.com today. Let me introduce myself: Corné Akkers, 51 years, living in The Hague, Netherlands and sucker for art for all my life. Consequently I do art professionally for over 13 years now in spite of a detour as a business lawyer. Long ago I came to the conclusion that I am not a lawyer like a whale is not a fish. Being an artist I feel like a fish in the water though. I came along way ever since and now I am living my dream for a long time.
